A 5 star hotel service and decor with a 3 star rating, What a bargain. Courteous and attentive owners - all family- delicious breakfasts.
I would say nothing. the glitches we encountered were resolved and were only due to the hotel newly opened, Staff is still trying to figure out some things that are part of running a hotel. Tour operators were not cooperating with them. I have already spoken highly of the hotel and some travelers are already on their way there!

Hotel Casa San Rafael, is beautiful, quaint, and charming place! Quite unique! The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The location is superb -- close to most things and safe to walk around. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and willing to help out, as needed. The owner, Maria Eugenia and her daughters are lovely, and always try to make you feel at home! They speak English, which can be challenging to find in a foreign county -- and a great advantage when needed. A nice breakfast is included, as well as parking. You can also find complimentary coffee and tea around the clock. I will definitely go back to Casa San Rafael, during my next trip to Cuenca!!

From the decor to the incredible friendliness of all of the staff, our family had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Casa San Rafael. Always helpful and warm, they made us feel like family. The cleanliness of the rooms was impeccable and the breakfast delicious. They had excellent suggestions re: restaurants and for my children, the Wi-Fi was throughout the hotel, which was a big hit. The hotel offered a luxury ambiance for very reasonable price and all in the historical center of Cuenca. I feel that from Rafael and Maria Eugenia and his daughters to Marcela, Paul and all of the people at the Hotel Casa San Rafael--that we now have new friends to visit in the future. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Cuenca, Ecuador

A beautifully restored old house near the center of Cuenca, close to 9 de Octubre market, shopping and excellent restaurants. The staff, especially Carolina, were very friendly, helpful with transportation, dining and other local information. The rooms, if a little small, were fairly priced. You cannot go wrong by choosing Casa San Rafael.
Ran out of hot water one morning but it quickly recovered. A bit more variety in the repetitious breakfast menu would be nice.

The stasff's attendance was very very good! They helped me to find my tours ...so I didn'tneed to spend hours on end on the internet to select and book them. Apart from that I was very delighted by the little coffee / tea buffet.....at any time did they serve something to drink. Thanks for that!

The entire " family " at the Casa was outstanding. We have all been duped by pictures we see on the inter net depicting something that is not really what you are going to be getting. In the case of the Casa San Rafael, it was the opposit. There is no way to depict with photo's how truly beautiful this old world building is. We were treated as family by the whole staff, which is largely made up of the lovely daughters and wife of the owner. They went way above and beyond our expectations as hosts. They arranged taxi rides, negotiated prices, and truly took care of us. Imagine our surprise when we returned from a day trip to find the bed covered in rose petals, a beautiful arngement of fresh flowers and chocolates. The owner had heard it was my wifes birthday! How cool is this family? I can't begin to say. Also, the non family staff, gave my wife a little going away present, and there were actually some tears shed! If you have any doubts about the Casa San Rafael, please dismiss them from your mind. This is Old World Charm at it's best!!!!! We will be returning there this Fall, and look forward to re uniting with our" New Family "in Ecuador.
There is absolutly nothing to dislike about the Casa. You will need to adjust to the sound of traffic on the cobblestone streets. If that is a bother, I'd suggest you ask for a more interior room. We actually found the sounds of the city soothing.
